Concept

Puberty: the body gets ready

Puberty is the period when the reproductive organs mature and germ cells begin to be made. It usually begins somewhere between about nine and fourteen years of age, at different times for different people.

The testes make sperms and the hormone testosterone. They lie outside the abdomen in the scrotum, because sperm formation needs a temperature lower than body temperature. Sperms travel through the vas deferens, which joins the urethra coming from the urinary bladder.
