Concept

Events of human reproduction

Reproductive events begin at puberty. There are clear differences between males and females: for example, sperm formation continues into old age, but egg formation in women stops at about 50 years.

Gametogenesis	Formation of sperms in males and ova in females
Insemination	Transfer of sperms into the female genital tract
Fertilisation	Fusion of a sperm and an ovum, forming a zygote
Implantation	The blastocyst attaches to the uterine wall
Gestation	Development of the embryo and foetus in the uterus
Parturition	Delivery of the baby

It lies in the pelvis and has a pair of testes, accessory ducts, accessory glands and the external genitalia. The testes sit outside the abdominal cavity in a pouch called the scrotum.
