Concept

What is GST?

The Goods and Services Tax is one tax on the supply of goods and services across India, in force since 1 July 2017. It replaced many separate taxes such as excise duty, VAT and service tax.

Charged on every sale in a chain, from maker to shop to customer
Charged on services too: repairs, catering, hall rent, software
Paid by the buyer, collected by the seller, passed to the government

GST is charged at every sale in the chain, not only at the shop counter.
